SLUT ISLAND

Ntu

Ntu crafts music for the future, with sultry vocals, sputtering beats and ethereal electronics. Born in Virginia’s northern suburbs, Ntu studied commercial and contemporary dance and oil painting as a teen. After discovering FKA twigs’s “Papi Pacify” video, he began producing music at the age of 15 on a school laptop. Throughout high school, Ntu had literary and academic aspirations, inspired by the writings of Toni Morrison and Frantz Fanon. After moving to New York in 2017, he channelled these expressions into daring, anti-disciplinary productions that evoke 90’s pop/R&B adventurists like Björk and Janet Jackson and the more contemporary avant-garde like Arca and Kelela. The result is a compelling vision of pop and R&B music amidst otherworldly land and soundscapes, a voracious investigation of Black futurity. He released his debut EP Perfect Blue May 22nd, 2020 to notable recognition from the likes of FADER, Resident Advisor, AdHoc, and Bubblegum Club.
